This section will discuss the early stages of designing the game, including explaining the initial physical prototype, the early ideas for the game, and the differences between this and the final prototype.

# Initial Ideas #
The idea for the game came from the 1994 film Speed, where a bus will explode if it goes below a certain speed. I wanted to transform this idea in to a game mechanic for my game.

To do this, I did some brainstorming resulting in me coming up with a few implementation ideas for the game. I wanted to try and get as much on the page as I could to decide how the game would play.

This brainstorming list shows a lot of ideas I had for the game. This gave me a solid idea of what kind of game I wanted to make. I liked a lot of the ideas within this list but I knew I had to narrow it down to decrease the scope and keep it manageable.

Multiplayer was obviously too expansive to implement within this project so I immediately scrapped this for the prototype. I knew I needed the driving speed limit mechanic with the twisty roads but I wanted to make sure there was enough variety in the gameplay for the player to not get bored. Therefore, I intended to implement the on foot resource gathering in between the driving rounds to add to the gameplay variety.

I then created a physical prototype to test if the implementation of the game that I was planning would work and be fun.

There were two physical prototypes made, one of the racing rounds, and one of the on foot collecting rounds.

These prototypes show the car racing round the twisty roads, with obstacles in its path. |
